If you have social anxiety, you’re probably a people pleaser like me. We just want people to like us right? Well, that often means you’re doing a crazy amount of shit for other people and not getting much in return. Â It quite possibly means you barely get time to take care of yourself because you’re always doing what other people want you to do.
Stop doing that. Just stop it.
You need to make yourself a priority more. Otherwise, you’ll end up running yourself into the ground and becoming depressed for people who probably haven’t lifted a finger for you during your entire friendship.
Being too nice isn’t going to get you liked any more than if you said no on occasion, if anything it will just make things a lot harder for you.
So how do you say no without being a dick? Just be polite about it…
Instead of saying “NO bitch! That sounds fucking terrible, I’m not doing that”
Say “I would love to but I’ll have to say no this time, sorry”
or “Thanks for thinking of me but I won’t be able to do that at the moment, enjoy”
or “I don’t think I’ll be the right person for that job, I’d recommend *insert more qualified name here* instead, he’s great”
or how about “I’m already busy, but thank you for asking me”
or “Sorry but I just have too much on at the moment, maybe another time?”
It’s scary to say no but it feels like a weight has been lifted afterwards, so try it! See how empowered you feel once you’ve said no.
